  • How I packed for my two years in Canada ?

A post to talk about luggage !  How to pack smart when you are about to move to Canada for two years ! It’s not necessarily the suitcase I made (hence this post to give you my advices and tips) and it’s a suitcase to do when you want to settle in Canada, and not a one for a road trip.

I made myself a short list a few weeks before the big departure, in which I added the things I was thinking about as I went along, and I booked two afternoons to pack. (yes two).

Organized, right? Yes except that Sunday morning, 48hours before the bid departure  I realized that the wheels of one of my suitcases were really  fuc**ed up. And it’s going to go very bad. Especially since I made the journey to the airport bymyself  and by train (and RER). So thank you very Dady for taking me to buy a second suitcase  !!
So before packing your bags or suitcases make sure of their quality.

Here is my ideal suitcase to go in PVT in Canada: (actually my 2 ideal suitcases, with 23kg per suitcase**)

    CLOTHING

I tried to take only  basics, so I could mix and match all my items together. I also preferred light clothes, good quality ones (exit the warm wool sweater of 2 kilos or the big  jacket).

    – 2 jeans (one black and one blue slim)
    – 1 “chic” pants
    – 1 jog
    – 2 pairs of thick tights
    – 1 thermolactyl boxer shorts
    – 1 shorts
    – 2 or 3 small tank tops
    – 3 short sleeve cotton t-shirts
    – 4 long sleeves cotton t-shirt
    – 1 jean shirt
    – 1 black shirt
    – 1 white shirt
    – 1 jacket (tailor style)
    – 1 black dress
    – 1 long vest
    – 1 sweatshirt
    – 1 wool sweater
    – 1 fleece
    – Underwear
    – socks
    – 1 summer pyjamas
    – 1 winter pyjamas
    – 1 Denim Jacket
    – KWAY
    – 1 Warm coat (but do not invest in a very cold coat in France, it is better to buy it directly in Canada)
    – 2 Cap
    – 2 pair of gloves
    – Scarf
    – 1 bathing suit
    – 1 pair of flip-flops
    – 1 pair of summer sandals
    – 1 pair of New Balance sneakers,
    – 1 pair of winter boots

TIP: don’t take too many clothes, because anyway you will buy some here (it’s cheaper, especially with the change rate and second hand stores)

    ——————————————————————————————————————–
    – Toilet bag (but you can buy everything here)
    – Medicices
    – Contact lenses + glasseS
    – Sunglasses
    – 2 microfiber towels

    TECHNOLOGY

    – 2 or 3 adapters
    – Camera, chargers, cables, 3 memory cards
    – Computer
    – Mobile phone number

TIP: take 2 or 3 adapters… on (I have) tend to lose those little things. Plus it’s cheaper to buy them in France, and not really bulky.

    DOCUMENTS

    – Passport
    – International driving licence, French driving licence
    – Certification of funds
    – List of important numbers (bank, insurance…)
    – Debit card / Credit
    – Cash (Canadian dollars)
    – Airline tickets
    – Health notebook
    – Emergency contact person (contact information)
    – Diplomas
    – Notebook + Pen

TIP: divide the items into two suitcases (for example, don’t put all the sweaters or medicines together in case one of the suitcases gets lost – just in case…

Do not bring an electric toothbrush, hair dryer or straightener, the current is not the same here! (and space gained in the suitcase !)

    AND FOR THE  HANDSUITCASE:

    – Toilet bag (knowing you can buy everything here)
    – Medicines
    – Contact lenses + glasseS
    – 2 or 3 adapters
    – Camera, chargers, cables, 3 memory cards,
    – Computer
    – Mobile phone number
    – Passport
    – International driving licence, French driving licence
    – Certification of funds
    – List of important numbers (bank, insurance…)
    – Credit card
    – Cash (Canadian dollars)

***A partnership between the pvtistes.net site and the airline Air Transat provides free baggage for an additional 17 kilograms in the hold, or 40 kilograms per person instead of 23.

    BON VOYAGE!!!!!
